So I have used a combination of howling banshees, and striking scorpions, using each independently and for the life of me i can't really figure out which one I like better in any one situation. Banshees, when combined with doom are a unit are simply destructive but even on the charge don't get nearly as many attacks as scorpions, or as good of a save. Scorpions get an extra attack, + 1 strength, and a 3+ armor save, but can't move nearly as quickly as banshees with the fleet. I've ended up taking a squad of each and assaulting the same unit just to make sure I get the best of both worlds, but what do you recommend? I know I probably don't have any readers right now but it would be nice to know what others thing about it.

I've done a little bit of playtesting with both groups, and they appear (to me, at least) to be useful in completely different situations. For low-armor, high numbers groups like Orks or gaunts ... the scorpions take the cake for sure. The better your armor, though, the less effective the scorpions get, while the Banshees don't lose that effectiveness due to high armor saves. I generally find that Banshees are best used held back and moved about as "trouble-shooters" going for your opponent's armored units that look to be causing trouble. Or put them in a Wave Serpent with the same idea to get them where you need them sooner. I've seen them used in conjunction with a Dire Avengers Squad where the Exarch is given the Shimmer Shield and Defend. That squad catches an enemy unit and acts as a "tar pit," holding the enemy while minimizing their own losses ... then you have the Banshees charge in and clean up.
Being an eldar player myself I stumbled more or less in this exact answer in most places I looked (the same as master daksol's that is). All this is true. And effective advice as well. But it has limited usage..
The real problem is when designing your army roster with a tournament or campaing in mind. You wouldn't know what you would be immediately facing, right?
So the answer to this question is "what suites the rest of your army better". Take a look: 1. have you taken enough anti-tank weaponry? (like brightlances?) 2. do you have enough guardians for mass enemy armies? 3. do you have enough heavy support? 4. do you have starcannons? (anti-marine) 5. do you really need good close combat soldiers? (many eldar armies-that contain jetbikes and warlocks- just dont need them) 5. if you do, what is your weak point? marines or lot or enemies 6. etc
and decide accordingly.
Mostly, all of these are bull-beep. Just take the models that you like, enjoy to play and enjoy to painyt :-) My taste is for the howling banshees in any aspect.
