Eldar Heavy Support

I wonder if any other eldar players find that we are completely spoiled when it comes to heavy support. First off we have the wraithlord, strength 10 toughness 8 how can you not love one of these guys? In addition to this walker we have the warwalkers... probably my favorite unit to use against unsuspecting opponents. 190 points for 24 strength 6 AP 6 shots that can be re-rolled with guide completely destroys ork units (on a side note I played in an apocalypse tournament where I ran three warwalkers with bright lances, guided every turn-it worked great against the deathwing player I was facing in the first round). Next up in the list comes the infamous dark reapers, the bane of power armor across the board. An exarch with fast shot and a full unit of reapers can shoot out 2 strength 8 ap 3 and 8 strength 5 ap 3 shots at BS 5 and 4. If you guide the squad the numbers of hits goes way up and you rip the heart out of just about any squad on the board besides terminators. Next we have the beautiful grav-tanks, the fire prism with its ability to combine fire and tage whole squads of gaunts can not be looked down upon and it's sister: the draqon wagon (a falcon with a 6 man squad of fire dragons and holo-fields) can slag any tank in the game. I have not had the chance to use heavy weapons platforms but hear that they are quite deadly if used correctly. So how do you choose what heavy support choices to take? I personally run dark reapers, a wraithlord and three warwalkers in many of my games now. What do you take and why? Any particular tricks you have learned?

Yes we are spoiled indeed.

The eldars' heavy support options are extremely versatile and there is always the urge to take one more!

Resist it.

My advice is not to take three heavy support units in medium games (1500-2000) unless you take em completely naked and cheap. Try to spent considerably less than 1/3 of your points in heavy choices (440points in a 1500points-game is probably an absolut max for me).

Your overeliance on heavy support will leave you heavily outnumbered, heavily outmanouvred and usually in a disadvantage.

One by one now.
The Fire prism may be shiny with its lovely large blast and BS4 but is the least tactical option. A lot of points for an easily destroyed target (it has to stay in the open to pay up for its points), no tactical advantages and limited usage. I wouldnt prefer it.

The Falcon on the other hand has transport capabilities, versatile weaponry (I go with sc.laser and upgraded sh.cannon) and a strong habit to survive. Its only downside is its cost (210points for full upgrades) compared to its not so powerfull weaponry. I always take one, up to now.

The wraithlord is excellent if you play close combat oriented army. If you like avatar, howling banshees and scorpions, take a wraithlord. Or two. Otherwise it is costly, slow, and a primary target to be taken down in the first turn.

The Dark Reapers are my favorite. In the new rulebook, they have a problem with the "dawn of war" deployment - they must spend a turn or two to get in a shooting position. The exarch with the missile launcher, though, is a swiss multitool/knife. Try to keep their cost down if you can.

I cannot help you with War walkers or support batteries as I have not tried them. But I believe that if you use more than one vyper, dont bother taking warwalkers - you have the firepower you need, quite cheaper and faster and you can save heavy support point on other choices.

Sorry for the lengthy answer
